LIGHTWEIGHT BACKFILL/LATERAL LOAD REDUCTION
The 50% lateral loading properties of TDA is being chosen for commercial foundation walls. The reduced wall loading benefit can give additional design safety factor.
TDA reduces lateral earth pressure by 50% compared to granular backfill (ASTM D6870-17; Tweedie et al. 1998). TDA porosity helps keep water draining away from the foundation wall and its insulation properties also reduce heat loss. Home basements and retaining walls have all benefited from TDA.
